Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is a five-member commission appointed by the Town Council.  All members of the Planning Commission are private citizens and must be residents of the Town of Port Royal.  The primary purpose is to review  subdivision and land development applications submitted to the Town and providing recommendations to the Town Council.  The Planning Commission promotes and coordinates comprehensive long-range planning, growth-management, transportation, and environmental protection; reviews and makes recommendations to ensure Subdivision and Zoning Ordinances remain current with the Town's needs, and update the Town's Comprehensive Plan, as it makes it recommendations on all matters for which it is responsible to the the Town Council for final decision.  One member of the Town Council serves as the Town Council's Representative to the Planning Commission. 

The Planning Commission meets monthly on the fourth Monday of the month. If the meeting falls on a holiday, the meeting date is changed and posted on the bulletin board in the Port Royal Post Office, is listed on the Town's Web-site, Faebook page and on the front of the Town Hall. The meeting is scheduled for 7:00 PM in the Chamber Room located in the Port Royal Town Hall, located at 419 King Street, Port Royal, Virginia.   The meeting is open to the public and citizens are encouraged to attend the meetings. 

If you are interested in serving on the Planning Commission, you can express your desire in writing to the Town Manager. Your letter will be kept on file until the next vacancy occurs at which time you will be contacted to confirm your desire to serve.
